Anna and Bello spent a peaceful day diving into Seoul’s spiritual side at Jogyesa Temple, the heart of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. Nestled in the bustling Insa-dong area near Gyeongbokgung Palace, this temple welcomed us with its rich history, dating back to 1395, and a calm vibe that felt worlds away from the city rush. We marveled at the Daeungjeon Hall, built from Baekdu Mountain pine, where the soft hum of chanting filled the air. The ancient white pine and Chinese scholar trees, standing tall for over 500 years, added to the magic, especially that quirky pine with its lopsided branches!
We strolled through the Iljumun Gate, feeling the shift from the everyday world to something sacred, and admired the unique lattice designs on the doors. The colorful matsya decorations caught our eye too, blending Hindu-Buddhist charm. It was a perfect escape, even with the city hum in the background.
Later, we headed to Lotte Mall, where floors 10 and 11 dazzled us with duty-free shopping for foreigners, perfect for picking up souvenirs after such a cultural day.
