Anna and Bello enjoyed a fascinating visit to the Vietnam Military History Museum on August 7th, located at Km 6+500, Thang Long Boulevard, Xuan Phuong, Hanoi. Recently moved to this new site in November 2024, the museum - established in 1956 - offers a fresh look at Vietnam’s military past with a ticket cost of 40,000 VND (about 2 CAD) per adult.
Bello had a blast reading and studying, diving into the history across centuries, from early resistance to modern times. The sprawling 38.66-hectare complex, with its four floors and outdoor areas, houses over 15,000 artifacts, including tanks, aircraft, and multimedia displays that bring the story to life.
We explored the indoor exhibits tracing Vietnam’s struggles against invaders from 214 BC to the American War, with Bello especially intrigued by the "Garden of Broken Toys" showcasing downed B-52s and Soviet tanks.
The outdoor space, featuring US and USSR planes, was a hit, though English labels can be sparse, brushing up on the Indochina Wars helps!
We arrived around 2 PM on a Thursday, enjoying a quiet start, but soon a wave of school kids brought lively energy, perfectly fine, just a bit noisy!
With cafés and gardens on site, we spent over three hours soaking it all in.
